Water quality training scheduled for Aug. 13 in Plano for Rowlett Creek

The upcoming Texas Watershed Steward workshop on the Rowlett Creek watershed in Plano is an excellent opportunity for residents to learn about the importance of watershed management and how they can actively participate in protecting water quality in their community.

Scheduled for August 13 at the Nature and Retreat Center, the workshop will cover a range of topics related to watershed systems and water pollution. Participants will have the chance to engage in discussions on community-driven watershed protection and management, gaining valuable insights into the local water resources and ways to get involved in conservation efforts.

Led by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, in collaboration with the Rowlett Creek Watershed Partnership and the City of Plano, this workshop aims to empower residents with knowledge and tools to make a positive impact on their environment.

One of the key highlights of the workshop is the focus on improving Rowlett Creek water quality. Through presentations and group discussions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of water pollution sources and how they can contribute to enhancing water quality in their watershed. The workshop will also provide an overview of water quality management at the local level, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in safeguarding water resources.

Attendees will receive a copy of the Texas Watershed Steward Handbook and have the opportunity to earn a certificate of completion, recognizing their commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, the workshop offers continuing education units for various professional disciplines, making it a valuable learning experience for a wide range of professionals.

Funding for this initiative is made possible through a federal Clean Water Act Section 319(h) Nonpoint Source Grant administered by the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The City of Plano is also a sponsor of the event, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting water conservation and environmental sustainability.
