Private water company in Texas faces backlash from residents over hydrant issues

Residents of The Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake, a gated community in Tarrant County, Texas, have been facing water supply issues that have left them frustrated and concerned. The community, located about half an hour northwest of downtown Fort Worth, has been experiencing low water levels, leading to boil water notices and mandatory water restrictions. This has caused inconvenience and dissatisfaction among residents, who feel that they are not receiving the level of service they expected when they purchased their homes.

Amanda Jones, a long-time resident of The Resort, shared her experience of having to resort to using the pool for bathing due to the boil water notice. Other residents, like Frank Romeo, have expressed frustration over high water bills, poor service, and frequent water outages. They have pointed fingers at the private water company Aqua, which supplies water to the subdivision, for the ongoing water issues. Residents have reported multiple boil water notices each year, highlighting the inadequacy of the water supply system in the neighborhood.

Aqua, on the other hand, has attributed the water scarcity issues to factors such as excessive outdoor water use by residents and water scarcity in the region. The company has emphasized the importance of water conservation and responsible water usage to ensure the sustainability of water resources. However, residents have raised concerns about Aqua’s ability to provide sufficient water to the community, especially considering that the neighborhood is not at full capacity and there are still many empty lots waiting to be developed.

The situation at The Resort is not unique, as water scarcity has become a pressing issue in North Texas due to rapid growth and worsening drought conditions. The Trinity Aquifer, which supplies water to the area, has experienced significant declines in water levels, leading to concerns about the long-term availability of water resources. Residents in neighboring communities, such as Azle, have also been under water restrictions, indicating a broader regional water access problem.

As the debate between residents and Aqua continues, the underlying issue of water scarcity and sustainable water management remains a critical concern. The need for responsible water usage, conservation efforts, and long-term planning to address water supply challenges is evident. The residents of The Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake are calling for better service, maintenance, and solutions to ensure a reliable and adequate water supply for their community now and in the future.
