The City of Montgomery, Texas, is facing a water crisis after one of its wells broke last week. This incident marks the second consecutive year that the city has had to deal with such an issue, according to the city’s website. With no timeline for when the well will be operational again, residents are being asked to conserve water to ensure that there is enough supply for essential needs.
The broken well, along with another well that was previously out of commission and needs to be rebuilt, leaves the city with only one functioning well to provide water to its citizens. This situation raises concerns about what would happen if the remaining well were to malfunction. City Administrator Gary Palmer stated that there is currently no contingency plan in place, and if the well were to fail, there would be no way to provide water throughout the entire city.
Palmer explained that the city is working with the county to address the issue but emphasized the importance of water conservation during this critical time. He mentioned that the city has four wells in total, but only three have been utilized in recent years. The well currently providing water to citizens is known as “Water Well 4.”
Despite the potential water shortage, some residents like Kambra Drummond, who owns an antique shop in Montgomery, remain unfazed. Drummond expressed that as long as she can perform basic tasks like flushing the toilet or using the sink, the water situation does not significantly impact her day-to-day business.
On the other hand, residents like Jordan Selleck were unaware of the issue until it was brought to their attention. Selleck expressed surprise and concern about the potential stress of facing a water shortage. However, both Selleck and Drummond expressed confidence that the City of Montgomery will resolve the issue without service interruptions.
In the meantime, residents are urged to conserve water and use it only for essential purposes. The city has implemented restrictions on lawn watering, allowing it only between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. Additionally, residents may notice changes in the color or temperature of their water due to the situation, but the city assures that it is safe to use.
As the city works to address the broken well and ensure a stable water supply for its residents, updates on the situation can be followed through news outlets like KTRK-TV. It is crucial for residents to stay informed and cooperate with water conservation efforts to mitigate the impact of the water crisis in Montgomery.
