As the summer season comes to a close and gardens begin to wind down, the University of Illinois Extension is offering a unique opportunity to keep the growing going with their “Four Seasons Gardening” webinar series starting on September 10. This series aims to provide valuable information and tips to help individuals make the most of their outdoor spaces throughout the fall and winter months.
The fall sessions of the “Four Seasons Gardening” webinar series will cover a range of topics designed to inspire and educate participants. Led by Extension Educators Emily Swihart and Bruce Black, these sessions will delve into landscape design, the benefits of engaging with nature, and the art of creating winter terrariums. Each session will be presented live online on select Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. and registration is required to participate.
The first session on September 10 will focus on designing stunning, personalized landscapes. Participants will learn the basics of landscape design, including principles and styles, to create a beautiful and functional outdoor space. This session will provide the foundational knowledge needed to begin personalizing a landscape and will empower individuals to take their outdoor spaces to the next level.
The second session on October 8 will explore the benefits of engaging with nature. In a world that is increasingly dominated by technology and artificial landscapes, it can be easy to lose touch with the natural world. This session will highlight the importance of connecting with nature and provide inspiration for prioritizing nature connections, even as winter approaches and daylight hours shorten.
The final session on November 12 will focus on creating winter terrariums. Terrariums are a wonderful way to bring a touch of nature indoors, especially during the holiday season and winter months. Participants will learn about terrarium basics, plant choices, and will be guided through the steps to create their own gumball machine terrariums. This session will provide a fun and creative way to add color and life to indoor spaces during the colder months.
For those unable to attend the live sessions, each program will be recorded and available on the Illinois Extension Horticulture YouTube channel approximately two weeks after the live program. Additionally, if participants require a reasonable accommodation to participate, they are encouraged to contact the session coordinator in advance to ensure their needs are met.
The “Four Seasons Gardening” webinar series is a fantastic opportunity for individuals to learn new skills, gain inspiration, and connect with nature throughout the fall and winter months. By participating in these sessions, individuals can enhance their outdoor spaces, improve their well-being, and enjoy the beauty of nature year-round. Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity to grow and learn with the University of Illinois Extension.
