The Bell County Master Gardener Association will host several events for area residents, including one next month in Harker Heights.
The Bell County Master Gardener Association and the Harker Heights Activities Center presents “Composting for the Homeowner: How and Where to use it in your Landscape” on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Harker Heights Activities Center, 400 Indian Trail, Harker Heights.
Certified Master Gardener Glenn Melton will discuss how you can make compost from materials readily available at home.
He will also discuss various uses of compost in landscape beds and you will learn how it benefits the entire lawn or garden.
The Bell County Master Gardener Association will be holding its monthly evening Herb Study Group on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
This month’s topic is “All About Thyme”. No registration is required.
The Bell County Master Gardener Association presents a Hands-on Workshop “Propagation — Creating New Plants” on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, BCMGA Learning Center, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
Certified Master Gardener Dave Slaughter will provide you with an understanding of how plants grow and reproduce and using that information to create new plants.
The educational class will focus on multiple propagation techniques such as stem and leaf cutting, layering, division and much more.

The Bell County Master Gardener Association will be conducting a free “Iris Swap” on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, BCMGA Learning Center, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
Participants are invited to bring iris bulbs from your home to share or stop by and get some irises to get started.
The Bell County Master Gardener Association will be holding its monthly Herb Study Group on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.

The Bell County Master Gardener Association is hosting a free monthly seminar “Landscaping 101” on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, BCMGA Learning Center, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
Certified Master Gardener’s, Rachel Glass and Kathy Lovelace will provide educational information to include tips and techniques on landscaping in Central Texas.
They will provide a list of several resources to use to help select native and well adapted plants for a variety of growing conditions and locations.
The Bell County Master Gardener Association presents a Hands-on “Seed Saving Workshop” on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, BCMGA Learning Center, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
Certified Master Gardener, Tracy Brown will teach participants how easy it is to gather and save seeds to save money.
Participants will also get an opportunity to visit the group’s demonstration beds. So bring your work gloves and come learn how to save seeds.

The Bell County Master Gardener Association presents a Hands-on Workshop “Herbs: From Garden to Kitchen” on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Texas Agrilife Extension Office, 1605 N. Main St., Belton.
Certified Master Gardeners Betty Nejtek and Terrie Hahn will provide information on how to use herbs from your garden.
New for this workshop, participants will make refreshing “mocktail” drinks from a variety of available herbs.
There will also be a selection of tasting dishes made with herbs, handouts, goodies to take home, and of course door prizes.
