Mexican national gets near 20-year prison sentence for trafficking meth into Texas

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — A Mexican national will spend 235 months in prison after he pled guilty to smuggling methamphetamine into the United States from Mexico.

Court documents show Rey David Sonora-Villanueva, 36, tried to sneak 153 pounds of meth through the Eagle Pass port of entry on February 26, 2020. During vehicle inspection, Customs and Border Protection officers found 153 pounds of meth in Sonora-Villanueva’s car. The purity level of the drugs was listed at 98%.

Sonora-Villanueva was indicted for four charges related to the possession and importation of methamphetamine. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 28, 2021 to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
